What to Expect
Can you believe your child is halfway to graduation? It seems impossible that just six years ago, they were learning to write their names and to sit still during circle time. Now, in sixth grade, your child is barreling ahead, diving into statistics, research papers, and the scientific method. In grade six there is also an opportunity to try out Girls on the Run, Pom Poms, Double Dutch, band, and even art club. While sixth grade brings many changes. We will work hard to prepare your child for their transition to Jennings Middle School next year. At the middle school he/she will be among the youngest in the school with many new classmates. Your child will move from having one teacher to having a different teacher for each subject. To prepare them for this transition this year in sixth grade your child will have more long-term homework assignments and projects, and will need to step up his/her organizational skills to keep track of different assignments and deadlines. You can help him/her develop study and time-management skills by checking for school assignments and engagements in their sixth grade planner. Sixth grade can also be a rather challenging year socially for kids, so I will often post great articles for you and your child to read together to help get through any new changes that may arise.
